Dear Wonderful Parents,
What a week! I can't believe it is almost February already.
It was great to see so many students at the play last Friday. It was amazing and the students did such a great job.
Also, we are having STEAM day and our school is in need of empty 2 liter bottles for STEAM day. Have your child bring them to school before February 13. Thank you!
Curriculum:
Science & Health-We finished up our astronomy unit with a test and students have been working on a choice board projects. They will be presenting these projects to the class on Monday. We will be starting a health unit on health and wellness.
Word Work: We finished prefixes this week and will be getting introducing blends:/ph/ /gh/ and f. Students write down their word work words every Monday in their agenda/assignment book. Please check the list each week so you can study to help your child be successful.
Math: Students took a test over standard MD.8. This is solving word problems with money. This week we will be reviewing MD.10, drawing graphs and solving problems using this data. We will also be reviewing for our math next which will be the week of 2/10. Study guides will be coming home in Thursday folders.
Reading-Students have been working on amping up their reading fluency. We have been working on reading with expression, scooping up words (not reading word-for-word), pausing at punctuation appropriately, and comprehension. Students took a reading quiz quiz with me. These results were sent home in their blue folders this week. I have conferenced with each student this week and I am realizing that some students aren't reading at home. This is such an important skill that impacts every subject. Please make sure you are reading at least 20 minutes with your child each night, asking them questions, being involved & excited about their reading growth. I am so proud of how much students improved in their BAS levels. Some students went up 4 levels!! I was also amazed at how much the students improved in both their math and reading iReady scores!! Hard work does pay off :)
Writing-We continue to read, write, and share poetry. I have selected several Spotlight on Good Writing pieces that I have shared in our classroom.
Have an amazing weekend,
Laura Lamaster
