Hello Amazing Parents!
This was a busy, short week! The students did great on their Paul Revere. It was an important unit, with a lot of information. They loved reciting parts of the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem and learning about how we battled to win our freedom from England.
In P.E. I have heard some amazing things about how well our class is doing for their PACER test. This is difficult with a lot of running. Hopefully this will put us in good shape to win Field Day in the spring--just kidding :) In P.E. we are going to have a Jump Rope program on Friday, 1/27.
Please make sure you send back any library books. We have library on Wednesday.
Reading-we took a pre assessment for our new Character Study unit. We have been reading a great book, Because of Winn Dixie. They are studying how characters grow and change throughout a story, just like we do. Make sure your child is going on RAZ kids and reading. I assigned books that coincide with what we are learning in other subjects.
Writing- we will started a literacy unit which will integrate a lot of the skills they will be using in their Character Study reading unit.
Science-we started a fossil unit. On Friday they were fortunate enough to Skype with a geology professor at the University of Georgia. She showed the students many fossils and they had to guess the prehistoric animal. Be sure and make sure your child is reading RAZ kids because I assigned many fossil and dinosaur books at your child's reading level.
Math-The students are doing a great job! I keep pushing them and challenging them. The students took the STAR math assessment and I was amazed with how much the students improved. Thanks for all the hard work and support at home--it takes a village :)
