Dear Awesome-sauce Parents,
It was another busy week. We were lucky to have Fox in a Box visit New Prospect. Representatives explained the history of Fox Theater--very interesting! Thank you PTA!
I hope to see everyone at Snowflakes and Hotcakes Saturday. Yummo!
Reading: We finished our Character Study unit and took a reading test. I posted these grades online if you would like to check your child's grade. I am so pleased to see how the students are going back and looking for details to support their answers, using sentence starters to start writing their answers, going back, editing, and explaining their answers. They did fantastic!
We will continue to use everything we have learned and apply this to our next unit poems, legends, folktales, drama, readers theater, and myths as we begin to review for Georgia Milestones. Be sure to go to my website: mslamaster.weebly.com to see some of the links for Georgia Milestones that might be helpful for your child.
Writing: We will also begin to review for Georgia Milestones and introduce literal and non-literal, idioms, similes, metaphors, and figurative language. So, it will be a busy time getting ready
Science: We are beginning our most difficult unit in science, heat. We discuss the 3 types of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation. We will begin a few demonstrations, and experiments next week so the students can visually see how thermal energy works. Please remind your child they need to go to their account on Google Classroom and complete the activities. This also includes their BrainPop video and quiz they need to submit to me. We do this in the classroom, but they sometimes forget, so if you need any help, please email me and I will be glad to walk you through the steps :)
Math
Both levels in math are studying geometry now. This is a short unit and we need to move quickly through this unit to allow time for a very difficult measurement unit and review before Georgia Milestones. Both levels will have their assessment on Friday. I will hand out their pre assessments to review and take home on Monday (No TAG on Monday because of testing). I teach math at the very end of the day and some of the students are having a hard time staying focused when I'm teaching some very difficult concepts. Please make sure they are understanding their IXL. I am noticing that some of the students are just writing in answers. I had to go back and read the question to several students because they didn't take the time to read the problem to know what to do. I have several papers on my desk of students that didn't read the directions correctly and have corrections.
Homework:
Monday
3.2-FF.12
4.1-Z.4
Wednesday
3.2-FF.13
4.1-Y.2
Friday
3.2-FF.15
4.1-Y.3
Have a wonderful weekend!
