Hello Wonderful Parents,
Don't forget we have pictures and curriculum night on Wednesday, 8/31.
We had a busy week with vision and hearing screening, a digital literacy lesson where the students learned NearPod in the media center, students continued their "All About Me"--which we all love, and the students are continuing to enjoy our read aloud book, Shiloh. This is a great story about a dog and a boy with many life lessons that make the students think about what is right and wrong. We use this book to teach character, plot, story elements and dialogue as they are learning about these in reading and their personal narratives in writing.
Please make sure your child is reading every night. This should be at least 20-25 minutes and our reading series recommends 30 minutes. They need to keep track of their minutes in their reading log which is in their binder. They need to hand this in on Monday. I will give them a new one for the week each Monday. They need to answer a question from the back after they read. The students have been learning about capitalizing words and parts of speech (nouns). This week they will be learning about commas and continue to learn about quotations and how to use them in dialogue.
In science the students had their first quiz over the habitat regions. Results are on home access and I will send the quiz home with Thursday papers. We will have another quiz this week. The students are going to share their 3 truths and a lie about a book they read about the Georgia habitats this week.
If your child has Ms. Lamaster for math:
All the students have their IXL username and password. If your child is still struggling with this please let me know. Many of the assignments are done online and I check to see how they are doing. Sometimes I take homework grades on a few of these. I always have IXL assignments on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. They have 2 days to complete their IXL assignments, for example Monday's IXL is due Wednesday, Wednesday's IXL is due Friday, and Friday's IXL is due the following Monday. It is always good to check and make sure your child is keeping up with these assignments.
We will also be starting our math stations this week. They will be in groups and one of the math stations is the computer. When they are on the computer they will go to my website: mslamaster.weebly.com and go to my math lessons. Then they can go to our weekly math station assignment. Some of these they needed to sign up for BrainPop (which we did this week) and after watching the video, they submit a quiz to me for a grade. They enjoy this and the visuals are great to reinforce math concepts. I always have an online activity for them to do as well.
Weekly Homework: Monday-B.1, Wednesday-B.2; Friday-B.6
Have a great weekend,
Laura
