Dear Parents,
Here are a few things to know for this week:
1. Writing: We continue to work on nonfiction writing. The students are writing about something they can teach to others. This week the students went to the library and checked out books so they can read more and become an expert on their topic. The students will start to write their final writing over the next 2 weeks
2. Reading: Please make sure you are reading each night with your child. It is so important in all subject areas to be a fluent reader. We continue to read and learn about nonfiction books. In our reading groups students will begin reading clubs, iReady, strategic reading groups with me, and RAZ kids.
3. English/Grammar: We learned about irregular nouns last week and we will be learning about reflexive pronouns this week. In word work we will be learning about the /ee/ vowel blend. Our Red Words this week will be: little, wrote, simple, where.
4. We finished mater in science and will start learning about early Georgia. We will start with learning about Cherokee and Creek Indians this week.
5. Math: We will continue addition and subtraction strategies and word problem skills. As we moved to understanding word problems it is important that students know their facts. They need to be fluent with these facts to help them work through difficult word problems. We will soon be getting into 2 step word problems which are always difficult, especially if students are struggling with basic facts. We took a quiz on Friday and results will be sent home in Thursday folders this week.
Thank you to everyone who wrote such thoughtful & sweet notes and the birthday gifts were more than generous. You and your child made me feel so special on my special day. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Have a wonderful week!
Laura
