Hello Amazing Parents!
Oh my goodness, what a week! It has been busy with bunches of learning going on! I sent home a flyer about Red Ribbon Week next week. They have a different theme each day, so make sure you check out the flyer. It was also sent email by Mrs. Lemons as well. Make sure your child wears red on Monday. :)
Writing: We will finish our how to writing nonfiction books and share them with the class this Friday and probably some the early part of next week too. These are so much fun to hear and the students love this.
Grammar and Phonics: We will be studying collective nouns and plural nouns this week. Our phonics skill is /oe/ this week.
Reading: We continue to read nonfiction. I have assigned several nonfiction books on RAZ kids for your child. You can have them read these at home through the Fulton County Launchpad. They need to take the assessment at the end so I can see how they are doing and will move them up levels if their comprehension is high enough. Also, don't forget that you can go onto iReady for reading at home. That way students can't say they don't have any books to read at home. When I checked the agendas on Friday I saw that several of the students have not been updating their reading log in their agenda and they don't have a parent initial. Reading is one of the best ways to help your child succeed in school. Thanks for all your support at home!
Math: The students will take their math test this week. This will be over addition, subtraction, word problems, and money. Several of the students are struggling with money even after we have worked with money manipulatives for weeks. Some students are not familiar with what the coins look like. If you have these at home you might want to play store and have them buy things to help them learn how to count money. I sent the study guide for you to study. Make sure you have studied this with your child so they will be successful on the test. Also, some parents are not aware that they can get on Fulton County Launchpad at home and do iReady for math. This is a great way to help reinforce skills taught at school. We will soon be starting Unit 3 over geometry. This is a fun unit and a nice break from the addition, subtraction, and money.
Social Studies: The students have been learning about the Cherokee and Creek Indians of Georgia. They got very involved with learning about the Trail of Tears and felt empathy for the Native American Indians that had to walk to Oklahoma, especially in the winter. We will be learning about Creek Indians and Tomacheechee this week.
Enjoy your weekend,
Laura
