Dear Wonderful Parents!
Even though it was only 4 days it was a long week with all the rain and indoor recess. Hopefully next week will bring some sunshine so we can get out, students can run around, and we can enjoy recess.
Picture day is February 28.
Curriculum this week:
Writing: We started to write like scientists by writing our first pre assessment which was a lab report of a science experiment of dancing raisins. Then we discussed, if we were a scientist, what would our "Big Question" and our "Hypothesis" be for our next science experiment with salt and popcorn kernels. We are just learning how to Science Lab Notebooks. This week the students will conduct their own experiment with cars and ramps, measuring how far they travel on different surfaces. The students love this writing unit and I do too!
Reading: We are reading nonfiction books and diving in deeper as we are learning and sharing with the class and with partners.
Word Work and Grammar: We will learn about similes and metaphors. This week we learned about the /oo/ phonics sound.
Math: The student learned about 2 dimensional figures, sides, vertices, angles, triangles, hexagons, pentagons, and polygons. They took a quiz on Friday and everyone did a great job. We will continue to work on geometry as they learn about 3 dimensional figures, drawing arrays, counting arrays, and, review odd and even numbers, We also took our fact fluency timed test. This is for an ice cream party. Some of the students have already finished. If your child is struggling, please make sure they are working on these facts so they can be successful and enjoy our ice cream party :)
Social Studies: We learned about Martin Luther King. Your child should have brought home a packet to finish for our final grade. Several of the students said they forgot it at home, so you might want to check to make sure they handed this in. We began Jackie Robinson and will continue studying him this week.
Enjoy the weekend,
Laura Lamaster
