Dear Wonderful Parents!
Thank you so much for the sweet treats, pens, special cards & notes, and flowers. You guys are the best!! It made my day to have the children come in all smiles with their gifts. What a great way to start any day. Thank you again for thinking of me and making me feel like a special teacher :)
This has been a busy week. The students had a Brain Building day on Tuesday--full of learning and fun! Then we visited a 1st grade classroom to hear their opinion writing about the story they read. And if that wasn't enough excitement....we had STEAM day on Valentine's Day with our Valentine's Day cards at the end of the day. It was an action packed week.
Curriculum:
Writing: The students finished up their poetry and submitted their final poetry booklet for grading. I graded one of their first poems and it went home in their Thursday folders this week. We will start scientific journal writing. This is so much fun because they get to do some experiments and then write about it! This is my favorite writing unit. We will start with our pre assessment on Tuesday with Dancing Raisins.
Reading: The students took a reading comprehension on a short passage they read on Wednesday. Some of the students struggled with this. I have these grades entered in Home Access and they will go home in Thursday folders next week. If your child struggled you might want to sit down and discuss the test with them so they can be more successful next time. We will begin our new nonfiction reading unit next week.
Word Work and Grammar: We studied pronouns this week and will continue this next week.
Math: In math we took our math assessment on Wednesday. Overall the students did well, but a few students are still struggling with taking their time and showing their work. We will start our new unit over geometry on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend,
Laura Lamaster
