Dear Amazing Parents!
It has been great meeting with some of you during parent/teacher conferences. I am looking forward to discussing this school year and your child's progress with you. Don't forget to go online and signup if you haven't already: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084daead2ea3f58-parentteacher1
Have you checked the Lost and Found lately. Please make sure you have you look through. There are water bottles, lunch boxes, sweatshirts and jackets.
Curriculum:
Reading: We reviewed for the reading assessment we will be taking on Monday. We will then begin the reading preassessment and our next unit. Continue to check and make sure your child is reading each night and logging these minutes into their agenda along with your initials. Thank you for all your support at home to help make your child successful :)
Grammar/English/Writing: We will be learning about collective nouns this week. We continue to discuss proper sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation with our daily oral language. The students are working on their final writing personal narrative project and will finalize these this week. Students have been sharing their personal narratives with the class. They love hearing other students' personal narratives.
For Word Work this week we will be reviewing silent /e/, /ph/, /ck/, and /ea/. We will have a quiz on Wednesday over all these words. If they don't pass on Wednesday I give them their quiz back so they can study to take the quiz again on Friday.
Science: We have been studying matter. The students are enjoying the activities...wait until next week. Fun stuff, as they learn about the types of matter and physical properties of matter.
If you are in Ms. Lamaster's math class:
Students will be took their first Unit 1 test and results will go home next week in Thursday papers. I still have a few students that need to finish this test, so I don't want to send them home until everyone finishes. Please send these back in Thursday papers. They took a pre assessment over basic facts relating to Numbers in Base Ten, addition & subtraction. We are starting to take fluency fact tests over addition each week. Make sure your child knows their facts. It is the building blocks of all our math work.
Don't forget to look over homework on Tuesday and Thursdays to make sure your child is completing this valuable practice. It also helps you know what they are learning in class so you can help and reinforce at home.
Have a wonderful week!
Laura Lamaster
