Hello Amazing Parents!
Well we survived our first blizzard in Atlanta in 2019...:) The students were so disappointed that we didn't get any snow, but we still have time.
Remember we students don't have school on Monday for teacher professional development. I will look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.
Parents, we have been having some difficulty with student behavior, so much that I have worked this into our community circles to discuss with the class. Unfortunately, I am not seeing the amount of improvement that would help our classroom run smoothly, so if you could follow up at home we can double team the children to make them better a better person, team player, and friend. Here is the basics of what we are trying to work on:
1. Worry about you doing the right thing and the classroom will run smoothly
2. You are the boss of you, no one else. Don't boss other people. Nobody likes to be bossed around.
3. Do your job!
4. If you have a complaint, write a note and put it on my desk.
5. Don't say anything negative about another student
6. Don't touch other students
7. Be kind
8. Be positive
These are just basic rules that I have told students at the beginning of the year and have kept reinforcing these rules every day, but we are still struggling. Thank you!
Here is the curriculum for the week:
Writing:
I am so impressed with the poetry the students have done! This is by far the best poetry writing I have ever had! I will send home their very first poetry writing grade (they have grown a lot since then). I will send these home with the graded rubric in Thursday folders. hey are working on a compilation of poems to put in a poetry book. We will display these on our bulletin board.
Reading:
Students are continuing to read with me to work on fluency. We have been having fun remembering our snap words and scooping up words by reading the funny books: I Know an Old Pirate that...., I Know a Princess with a Pea...there are too many to list. They are fun to read together and work on fluency as we read these silly books. We continue to enjoy our Shiloh books as we learn about character development, setting, beginning, middle, and end of story, compare and contrast, main characters, etc. The students are really enjoying this book.
Word Work
We are working on /or/ next week. We are reviewing nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs.
Math:
I will be sending home the study guide in Thursday folders. We will be having the Unit 4 assessment next week or the following week depending on how the students are handling adding and subtracting with 3 digit numbers which we will be working on this week. Some of the students are still struggling with writing down the digits so they can borrow. They visually have to see this and they are trying to do this in their head and making mistakes. When we get to 3 digits, they will not be able to do this in their head correctly. Please make sure they are showing their work so they can be successful on the assessment coming up. We will have a quiz on Friday over 3 digit addition and subtraction with carrying and borrowing.
Science and Social Studies
We will finish our astronomy unit this week and begin Martin Luther King Jr. We will also have a live museum performance on Friday: The Boy Who Would be King
Have a wonderful extended weekend!
