Dear Parents,
We were able to have a preview of what our STEAM day will look like with our Builder Bunch program where they learned about roller coasters.
This week we will have Brain Building day Tuesday afternoon and STEAM day all day on Thursday. This is also Valentine's Day. I will have bags for them to decorate in the morning and then when we get done with STEAM day we will distribute our Valentines to everyone. I have a list of all the students on my website (mslamaster.weebly.com) under "Roster" We have 21 students. If you plan on bringing in treats please let me know ahead of time.
Remember we don't have school on Friday or Monday.
Curriculum this week:
Writing-We are turning into young poets! The students are sharing each day and creating a collection of poetry to put on our bulletin board. I am so proud of how much they have improved. We will have our final writing grade next week.
Reading-We will have our writing assessment on Thursday. This will be comprehension over a short passage. The only way to prepare for these tests is to read, read, and then read some more. Ask your child questions after they read, get involved in the stories they read, read with them, enjoy this time with your child...it doesn't last long :) When I checked the agendas I saw that many of the students are not reading or writing down what they are reading at home. Please make sure they are keeping up with this. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Word Work/Grammar- We continue to study all the parts of speech. Next week we will review possessive nouns. Since we have a short week next week we will take the time to review everything we have learned so far this year.
Math-I sent home the study guide for our Unit 4 math assessment. We will be taking this on Wednesday. We will review on Monday, we won't have math on Tuesday because of Brain Building Day, then we will have the assessment on Wednesday. Thursday we have STEAM day so I won't see the students. Please make sure your child is prepared for this test. This is one of our most difficult tests we take this year.
Science/Social Studies: We finished the solar system by learning about stars. Ask your child if they know what type of star our sun is. We have a program about Martin Luther King Jr. on Wednesday. This was a great program and a perfect way to start our new unit on MLK. We continue to learn about MLK next week.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura Lamaster
