Dear Amazing Parents,
We now have a pet tadpole named . Since I am leaving to visit family over spring break, I won't be able to feed the tadpole. If your family is wanting to adopt the tadpole over spring break, please email me as soon as possible.
Don't forget to pack a lunch on Tuesday, March 26 for your child if they aren't buying a sack lunch from the cafeteria.
Report cards were sent home in blue Thursday folders. Please sign these and return by Monday.
If you are leaving early next week, please let me know so I can have your child complete any assignments before they leave.
Curriculum this week:
Writing: We will be finishing science notebook writing this week with a final experiment . The students finished building their catapults and compared the distance of throwing, or launching a cotton ball. The farthest distance with the catapult was 126 inches from the Flying Cotton Ball group. in second place was the Wowie Wow Boom group with 70" launch, and finally in 3rd place is the Bald Eagles with 52 inches. Every group could throw their cotton ball farther than they could launch it with their catapult. I guess we should be thankful we don't live during medieval times.
Reading: The students are learning about main idea, author's purpose, supporting details, and summary with their nonfiction books. They took a reading assessment this week and results will be sent home in Thursday folders.
Word Word and Grammar: We will continue to review parts of speech and commas in a series. For word work we will be studying next week is /aw/ sound ie: yawn, seesaw, shawl, hawk. The red words are: old, happen, and against
Science/Health: We finished up our nutrition unit and started our life cycle unit. We will be hatching frogs and butterflies. The students have already planted seeds in plastic bags and are keeping track of their progress in their notebooks.
Math: We started our unit 5 assessment and will finish this on Monday. We will review the skills we have learned so far next week and begin our pre assessment for unit 6 over numbers and operations.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura Lamaster
