Hello Amazing Parents!
Well we made it through another week! It was full of Thanksgiving festivities, tests, fact fluency quizzes, and we topped it off with a pajama day, reading, and sharing our favorite books with the class.
We will have a Holiday Shop preview day on Monday. The PTA is running this shop, so it will be a lot of fun for the students. We will have our holiday buying day on Friday at 9:40. If you would like your child to buy any holiday gifts, please send $ on this day.
Curriculum:
Writing-Students are learning about fictional characters as we are reading our new read aloud together, Shiloh. I just love this book, and I can almost guarantee it will be your child's new favorite book. This is part of a trilogy so the students really get involved in the main character and we discuss character development, character changes, how the author develops the character, and how they can develop their own fictional character in their writing. This is a fun unit and the students really enjoy being able to write creatively for a change. The students are sharing their informational writing and I will be sending home their grades as soon as we finish presenting these. I am loving reading them. I have learned so much about knights, castles, dolphins, ice skating, karate, football, and I am learning all kinds of things about dogs!
Reading-The character study we are learning in writing flows right into what we are learning in reading. We continue to study characters, how characters are alike and different, how they interact, and how they change throughout the story. If your child would like to bring in a fictional series they have reading at home they are more than welcome. Please make sure your child is getting on iReady and RAZ kids at least a couple of times a week. I can tell the students that are not reading at home because they aren't improving at the rate of the other students. I appreciate all your efforts at home to help your child be successful.
Grammar and Word Work-We will be reviewing the /ir/ /er/ and /ur/ sounds. The red words this week are: again, ask, and each. We will be learning about adjectives this week.
Math-We will be learning about measuring inches, feet, and yards this week. We took at quiz over telling time Friday and everyone did an amazing job. The grades are posted on Home Access if you would like to see how your child did. On Friday they had a lot of fun being math detectives figuring out who put a curse on people to make them gobble instead talk. They area almost finished, so I told them if they finished over Thanksgiving break I would give them a treat if they brought it back completed and correct.
Social Studies-The students took their final assessment over Creek and Cherokee indians Friday. They did great. The grades are posted on Home Access. After Thanksgiving we will be learning about personal finance. The students will be planning and budgeting a Thanksgiving dinner with $100. We will see how this goes.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!
