Hello Amazing Parents!
Career Day was a huge success. Thank you so to Mr. Pallapothula and Mr. & Mrs. Kovarovics for taking the time out of their busy schedule to present to our kiddos. It helps them to know how hard work and perseverance pays off in a meaningful career.
Just a few quick things:
1. Some parents received letters about extended day. Please sign and return these ASAP. This is a great program so please take advantage of this opportunity.
2. Fastbridge testing will begin in January, so don't forget to keep reading and working with your child, especially over the holiday break so they don't fall back over the break.
3. We have been working hard being kind to others, being a good friend, and caring of those around us. The last week of school I would like to draw for secret buddies next Friday. This is a top secret operation. I told the students about this today, so they are all excited. Here is how it works: Next Friday they will draw their secret buddy name. Boys will get a boy buddy and girls will get a girl buddy. Over the weekend they will make something (a sweet note, a snowflake, a drawing, etc.) that they can give to them on Monday. On Tuesday they will give them a little treat (a piece of candy, a homemade cookie, etc.), on Wednesday they will write a sweet note telling one nice thing about their buddy and give one clue about themselves. On Thursday they will bring in a $5.00 gift to exchange in our kindness circle. The students will reveal who their secret buddy was. If you are unable to do this, or don't want your child to participate in this, please let me know ASAP so I can make other arrangements. Thank you in advance for supporting this and all your help.
Curriculum:
Writing: The students are writing fiction stories and will be sharing these with the class. The students will soon be sharing their stories with the class as they are finishing up their stories. I have already had some of the student who have modeled everything we have talked about share their stories with the class.
Reading: In reading we will be working on bigger books, specifically working on fluency, prosody, and phrasing. Students 28ll take a reading assessment this week. I have the grades posted on Home Access by Friday. Please remember to read each night with your child and to have your child get on iReady (reading) and RAZ kids over the break.
Math:
I sent home the study guide for our Unit 3 math assessment. We will be taking this test this week, so please review and prepare your child so they can be successful on this assessment. We will take a preassessment over unit 4. This is applying the base ten concepts. This is a lot of word problems and taking the time to understand how to solve using the concepts they have learned. Please utilize my website to keep reviewing the math skills so they don't forget what we have learned. Also, it is a good idea to keep up on their math fact fluency (addition & subtraction) to help them with this unit. Please keep up with iReady (math) over the winter break.
Grammar and Word Work:
We will study the /ou/ sound and begin adverbs.
SS/Science/Health:
We will finish our unit over economy next week and will start a health unit the last week before holiday break.
Enjoy the weekend,
Laura
