Hi Wonderful Parents!
I am watching the blossoms falling from the cherry trees outside our school window. I am so ready spring and a little less rain!
This has been a very busy week. I am headed to the Shamrock Shindig tonight, so I hope to see some of our class their tonight.
Thanks for getting the field trip forms back so quickly. I've got all of the forms handed in and our sack lunch count to the cafeteria--thanks for your help with this!
We have Brain Building Day on Tuesday.
Curriculum this week:
Writing:
The students are building catapults and we will be testing them next week This is the fun part. I can't wait to see what the students come up with. Next week they will be experimenting to see if they can launch the cotton ball farther by using the catapult or throwing it. Then they will be charting their results. We will begin talking about how to use expert science vocabulary words and how to write a good conclusion for their science lab notebook.
Reading: The students will finish their posters so they can upload their presentation video into SeeSaw so you can view it. We are beginning to discuss how to determine the main idea and supporting details and how they can use this information in their posters. We will take a reading test Friday and possibly finish on Monday if we don't have time to finish on Friday.
Word Work and Grammar: our phonics skill for next week are words ending in /dge/. Examples: badge, fudge, edge, bridge. Our Red Words are: question, understand, really
Math: We continue to study geometry. We will review our pre assessment next week and prepare for our unit 5 test. I would like to begin this on Thursday or Friday if we can complete our review with enough time. We will lose a day because of Brain Building Day, so we might have to push this assessment until Monday of next week. I will keep you posted.
Health: We have had a lot of fun talking about germs this week. The students were disgusted when we talked about how germs travel and are all over everything they tough every day.
Science: We will begin our unit on Life Cycles next week after we finish nutrition.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura
