Hello Wonderful Parents,
It was great to see everyone at curriculum night! I attached the powerpoint presentation for reference or any questions.
We had a busy week. The students finished FastBridge assessments in both reading and math. We completed iReady math and will finished iReady in reading this week.
Reading: students are continuing to enjoy our shared reading book, The Cricket in Times Square. This is a imaginative story about a mouse, cricket, mouse, and a boy names Mario. We read this together as we talk about good reading, how to read with expression, "scooping up words", "snap words" and stopping to think about what you just read. We use this and other good literature to teach character, plot, story elements and dialogue as they are learning about these in reading and their personal narratives in writing.
Please make sure your child is reading every night. This should be at least 10-20 minutes They need to keep track of their minutes in their agenda. They need to write down what book they are reading and a parent needs to initial this. As I have reading conferences with your child we will be discussing the books they are reading at home and I will be checking their agendas.
The students have been learning about capitalizing words, punctuation, subjects and predicates. In word work we will be learning the /ph/ skill. On Thursday we will have a quiz over these words: phone, photo, graph, elephant, **BONUS: photograph**,
Red words: Here, But, That, Sentence: Did you fix the phone to make it ring?
In science the students will have their first practice quiz over the Georgia regions. Grades and results will be posted in Home Access. So please make sure you sign up so you can keep track of your child's progress in school. The students are going to play a game where they will share 3 truths and a lie about what they read and learned about the Georgia regions and landforms this week.
If your child has Ms. Lamaster for math:
We started our math stations this week. They will learn about a game called "Beat the Teacher" which helps students with classroom structure and using time wisely when in their math stations and during transitions. We have been learning about place value, base ten blocks, standard form, expanded form, word form, counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. They have been working on grouping and regrouping. We will have a quiz on Friday over these math skills.
Have a great weekend,
Laura
