Hello Amazing Parents,
Georgia Milestones is coming the 2nd week in April. Please help prepare your child for this important test by going online to see what the test will be like. It would be a good idea to spend a little time each week (possibly Tuesday & Thursday) to review skills and concepts taught at the beginning of the year with this valuable link:: http://www.gaexperienceonline.com/
I also have resources on my website to help review for Georgia Milestones.
We had an outstanding Exceptional Children Program and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday. These students are such an inspiration to all of us and I was honored to be able to celebrate in their small and big accomplishments. "Acceptance is seeing with your heart and not with your eyes."
I graded the reading test and overall the students have come a long way since the beginning of the year; however, some students are still choosing not to start paragraphs with a sentence starter and not going back into the text to support their answer with facts or details from what they read. This isn't difficult, but students don't want to take the time to do this correctly. I will spend time reviewing and conferencing with students over this test this week.
We will take our Write Score writing assessment online in the computer lab this week. The students will be asked to write an opinion essay over a particular topic. I hope to get these results before the end of the school year so I can share this information with the students to help improve their writing skills.
We took our heat assessment and I will have the grades posted on Home Access as soon as I have everyone finish the test. We will begin a unit over Franklin D. Roosevelt with a test on Tuesday,3/22. We will also be covering Eleanor Roosevelt, but will cover her in more depth after the FDR assessment and then will have an assessment over Eleanor Roosevelt on Friday, 3/25. Then we will begin Thurgood Marshall with an assessment on Friday, 4/1.
If you have Ms. Lamaster for Math:
We continue to learn about measurement and data, which is a very broad area with many different concepts...think customary units and metric units. I am moving up the math assessment for this unit one day so we have extra time to review for Georgia Milestones. This means the assessment will be April 22. I will be sending home study guides this week for students to study. This is a difficult unit with a lot of information, so please take the time to review with your child.
Homework:
Monday: 3.2—U.4; 4.2 N.9
Wednesday: 3.2—U.5; 4.2 N.10
Friday: 3.2—U.6; 4.2-N.11
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura Lamaster
