- . Hello Amazing Parents,
What a busy week your child has had. Please make sure you return your media release paperwork ASAP. As soon as these are all turned in I will post pictures on this website and Twitter so stay tuned and check my twitter for a few pictures of our beginning of school activities @laura_lamaster.
Information & Reminders: - Graded papers will go home on Thursday. Please look these over & review with your child. Math and reading tests will be kept in their Math/Reading Data Binders. At times I might send home tests asking for a parent signature (pink sticky note). These tests will need to be returned to school. Please email me if you want to review tests with your child and I will send the data binder home with the test. Please return the data binder within 2-3 days since we use these frequently with the students.
- Absences & change of transportation: When your child leaves early, or is absent, please send in a written note or email me in the AM to: [email protected].
- Agendas & Homework: Students will be responsible for copying homework assignments in their agendas daily. Test dates are announced a week in advance to provide your child ample time to study.
- Math facts: All students need to know their math facts, especially multiplication 0-10. Please start practicing now! When students know these facts it helps them to be successful and they are able to apply this knowledge in problem solving activities and real work situations.
- Picture information was sent home today. Picture day-Friday 8/21
1. Be responsible for your behavior at all times in the school.
2. Be truthful with self, classmates, and teachers.
3. Be trustworthy. Be ready when class starts without the teacher having to ask. When working in a group do your fair share of work for the team.
4. Use active listening. When someone is talking please listen with your eyes, ears, and heart.
5. Be respectful/no put downs. Follow the golden rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
6. Nothing but your personal best will be accepted. Take your time. Think long and hard...the quickest way is not always the best. No ripped/wrinkled papers, check your spelling, use complete sentences, reread sentences to make sure they make sense. Read and follow the directions carefully.
7. Take pride in your school. We have a great school full of super teachers, administrators, and students. You are a class act...act like it :)
Curriculum this week:
Reading & Language Arts--
Students will be bringing home their composition book to create/design the cover. This can be completed with personal pictures, drawings, pictures of favorite things, important people in their life, etc. You might want to begin collecting pictures for this over the weekend so when I send them home on Monday it won't be such a major undertaking. Please have your child return their composition notebook each day so we can write in them.
Skills: Asking/Answering Questions while reading, Capitalizing words in a title, plot & setting.
Your child should be reading a book at their level for at least 15 minutes each night to improve their reading stamina and vocabulary.
Math-- (Please check the blog of your child's math teacher for specific information)
If your child has me for Math:
Skills: ACC & Adv will be studying whole numbers, place value, & rounding in computation.
I will be handing out a Place Value Choice Board on Monday. Students need to choose 3 activities from the board. This is due 9/17. I don't want the students to rush through this. They should have plenty of time to have fun with this and be proud of their activities.
Homework for this week: Monday-IXL A.1; Wednesday IXL A.2; Friday IXL A.3
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected].
Hope your child had a wonderful week, I know I sure enjoyed them.
Enjoy your weekend,
