Hello Amazing Parents,
Thank you to all the parents who brought snacks for ITBS testing. The students appreciated having a little snack after testing and before lunch :)
I have a favor to ask of the tennis players out there. We do an activity for math called "I Can" and I need more empty tennis ball containers to use for this activity. Any and all empty tennis can ball containers, with lids, would be appreciated :) Thanks so much
The students made it through a long week of testing! Many students loved sharing their guess a fairy tale and character activity--lots of fun. On Friday, they all studied the architecture of bridges and buildings that have to hold a lot of weight. The they build a house for the 3 little pigs with toothpicks and gumdrops. Then we had a contest to see which house could withstand the most weight. I will post pictures of the houses on Twitter so you can see the innovative designs--I was impressed.
This week we will continue to study myths, legends, folktales, fairy tales, and fables. We will study stories from different cultures. I conferenced with 1/2 of the students about their second reading test and will finished with the rest of the class on Monday. I think it is valuable for students to reread and reflect on their test so they can improve next time. I hope this will help them with their next reading test and other tests in the future-- as good as we are we can always get better :)
In social studies we will start a unit on Economy which will include the geography/map skills of major US rivers and mountain ranges.
If you have Ms. Lamaster for math:
We continue to study multiplication & division of whole numbers. Students will be getting information to study for their unit test the week of November 2.
Independent Practice/Homework:
Monday-4th grade IXL E.2
Wednesday-4th grade IXL E.4
Friday-4th grade IXL E.5
Have a great weekend,
Laura Lamaster
