Hi Amazing Parents,
It feels so funny writing 2016 on this blog, but I am rested, excited, and ready for the new year! I hope you had some quality family time with your loved ones over the break.
We have a busy 2nd semester getting ready for Georgia Milestones in April. Please take advantage of the online resources I have on my website, http://mslamaster.weebly.com, to help prepare your child for this major test and placement assessments that will take place as we countdown to the end of the year. These online resources are under "Websites and GA Milestones."
This week be looking for a letter about our Think First & Stay Safe program. It explains this program and will need to be returned with a parent signature if you choose to not have your child participate in this program.
Students will begin STAR reading and math January 29. Please make sure your child is rested and ready for this important test. I will send out reminders as we get closer to this date.
When I was checking student reading and test history on Learning A-Z or RAZ Kids, I noticed that students have not been reading at least one book per week. For some of the students I increased the reading level of books. I also left messages for some students, so you might want to check RAZ Kids.
In reading I am excited to begin a poetry and drama unit. Your child will learn dialogue, play structure, comprehension, character motivation, understanding vocabulary, stanzas, poetry structure, comparing, contrasting poems and stories, using details from the text to support their answer, understanding what is happening in different scenes, figurative language, and metaphors. We will review and learn more about verbs. Students will begin to work through online lessons during our reading stations. If your child doesn't finish during our reading stations, they will need to finish these lessons at home.
In writing we will be learning how to write an opinion piece. We will be learning about how to write an informative introduction that makes the reading want to continue reading.
In science fossils will come to life as we apply what we learned about rocks, minerals, and soil to see how fossils help us learn about animals we have never seen before. I have many fossil links on my website under "Science Lesson" that are fun and informative.
If you have Ms. Lamaster for math:
This semester we will differentiate between our 3.2 and 4.2 students. We will still both be covering fractions, but 4.2 will be go more in depth with decimals, percentages, multiplication, and division of fractions. 3.2 students will have more data and measurement and plotting fractions on a ruler.
Wednesday Homework
3.2-IXL 3rd grade S.12
4.2 IXL 4th grade Q.13
Friday Homework
3.2-IXL 3rd grade S.13
4.2 IXL 4th grade Q.14
Enjoy your last day before school!
