Dear Parents,
Field Day will be on 5/17 and we need volunteers! Please click on the link below from Coach McCarthy:

Several of you may notice a drop in your child's grades. It is so important that your child completes the assignments on my website and your child utilize the resources that I have provided on my website and in class.
Please make sure your child is reading about 20-30 minutes each night. Teach good study habits and responsibility now by having your child do this. You can read with them and ask them questions so they are accountable and are comprehending what they are reading.
I will often get many excuses from children about why they didn't do their homework or why they didn't study, and unless there was a serious emergency, I do not accept those excuses. School should be their main priority. I use the analogy with them that school is like their job, and they cannot show up to their job unprepared. If we teach our students responsibility and good study habits now, they will use those habits for life!
GA Milestone Letter of Encouragement
As you know, the Milestone is coming around the corner for us. Can you believe that we have 3 more weeks until testing starts? Testing this year starts on Tuesday, April 12 and goes until Tuesday, April 26. More information about the testing schedule will come home soon.
One special thing I like to do for students before testing begins is have the parents/guardians write a secret note of encouragement for students to open on the first day of testing. Students love these and it gives them the encouragement and reassurance when faced with their first “Big Test.”
The directions for these notes are below. Please keep this a secret, thank you!
- Write a note to your child wishing them luck on the Milestone. Include words of encouragement to reassure your child that s/he will do a fabulous job!
- Put your note in an envelope, write your child’s name on the outside, seal the envelope, and return it to school by Monday, April 11.
- Make sure your child knows that s/he is not to open the envelope!
Curriculum this week:
We will have a busy week. We won't have TAG this week because of testing, so we are going to have our Write Score Opinion writing on Monday. We will have a reading quiz and review to help prepare them for Georgia Milestones. Don't forget to be working on the Geronimo Stilton projects (due 3/28). We will be presenting the Mouse and the Motorcycle houses along with our persuasive/opinion letters to the kindergarteners the week before spring break.
We will have our Franklin Roosevelt test on Tuesday (this has changed from Wednesday because my student teacher is going to teach a lesson during social studies for evaluation). This will probably confuse the students because I let them know the big dates of assessments coming up and what to prepare for next week...I am sorry if this causes confusion, but I will straighten this out with them on Monday as well.
If you have Ms. Lamaster for math
We will review for our test on Monday and take the test on Tuesday. I reviewed these with each group and gave them the correct answer so they have a corrected study guide to study over the weekend.
We will begin reviewing for Georgia Milestones after the assessment. After Georgia Milestones, we will apply everything the students have been learning about math and use it for STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) activities. Personally, I can't wait for these projects. The students love this and I enjoy seeing how students creatively solve real world problems and put their math smarts to use!
Homework:
Monday-3.2 U.7; 4.2 N.12
Wednesday-3.2 U.8; 4.2 N.13
Friday-3.2 U.9; 4.2 N.14
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura Lamaster
