Dear Wonderful Parents,
We had an amazing time on our field trip to the Chattahoochee Nature Center. We gazed at the constellations in the Star Lab, watched eagles eating, saw a busy beaver swimming, we even saw a "ghost" owl. The students had a great time and the weather was fantastic! Thank you to Jill McCabe for being our chaperon!
Jump Rope for Heart ends this week! We have already raised over $10,000 for the American Heart Association! Way to go! There is still time to join and earn your glow-in-the-dark wristband. Click here to register: http://www2.heart.org/goto/newprospect The last day for donations to be turned in is this Friday, February 23. We are encouraging online fundraising along with check donations made payable to the American Heart Association. Please no cash. Thank you for your support of this wonderful program at our school! Our students have learned how to live a heart-healthy life while helping others!
Curriculum this week:
We finished our health unit over germs and will begin a science unit over astronomy.
English, grammar, writing: We will begin to study adverbs this week. The students finished their poetry unit by writing poems. We will begin a unit about scientific writing. This is a fun unit where the students are writing like a scientist discovering things in a journal. It has to be organized, informational, and able for others to read and make sense of your thoughts.
In word work we will study the /or/ sound. Here are some of our /or/ words: sort, fork, cord, born, form, storm, forty, forlorn, orbit, hornet, forgave, northern, stormy, forget, order, pork
Red Words: when, who, Thursday, hundred, thousand
Reading: We will begin a new nonfiction reading unit this week. We will begin book clubs with our nonfiction books.
Math: Students finished their math assessments. The grades are posted online unless your child was absent, or missed answering a page of the test :) I am going to share and review these with the students this week and then they will put them in their math data binders. If you want to see the test at any time, please email me and I will send home the math data binder with your child.
In both 2.2 and 3.2 we will begin a geometry unit. in 3.2 we will begin to introduce fractions as we review the geometric shapes.
Please remember to be doing iReady math and Redbird on the days your child does not have homework.
Enjoy this weekend,
Laura
