Dear Parents!
Oh My Gosh....I have the best parents in the world. I feel so blessed this week with the sweet and thoughtful notes, candy, presents, gift cards, and flowers. I can't thank you enough, but it is not about the gifts, it is about the children and I have to tell you I feel so fortunate to have had your child this year. Friday we will have a beach bum day, so students can bring their sun glasses, a beach towel, and their favorite book to read at the "beach" Thank you for everyone volunteering to bring in things for our theme days this week. You are the best! Moms, have a wonderful Mother's Day! Curriculum: Science: The students loved playing the games and puzzles they made during science. We will learn about economics. To help learn economics I would like the students to bring in something to sell on the last week of school. It can be something they can make, then students will have a market day where they will purchase other students goods or services with their Lamaster bucks. If you have questions about this please email me and I can answer your questions. Writing/English: Students reviewed the /aw/ and learned the /au/ . We didn't have time to take the quiz on Friday, so we will finish this up on Monday and have a phonics review this week. Reading: I sent home the last reading assessment. I was so please with how well everyone did on this test! They also completed the Fastbridge test and everyone made big improvements! So proud of them! Math: We have been reviewing this week and will continue to review next week. The students are loving the Prodigy math program. I hope this is something that will help keep their math skills sharp over the summer. I will be putting the math assessment from their math student binders in their cumulative folder, so if you are interested in seeing this information please let me know ASAP before I do this on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend, Laura Hello Wonderful Parents!
We finished FastBridge except for a few students that were absent. The students did an amazing job. Their graphs are going up, up, up :) We are working fast and furiously to get our Spring Showcase projects completed by Thursday. Your child has selected to either do a game or a puzzle (or preapproved project). Most of the students have completed their 10 questions & answers for their 1st life cycle last week and they completed their 10 questions & answers for their 2nd life cycle this week. I conferenced with the students about their projects to make sure they were on track and what I found was that the students needed help with spelling. I helped as much as I had time for and told them to go back and edit their questions. This is difficult for a 2nd grader to edit their own work, especially when they aren't sure of the spelling of many words. If you could take a look at their questions and answers to make sure they are spelled correctly it would make playing the games and puzzles much easier and more fun if we can read them :) I gave each student an envelope to put all their puzzle, questions, instructions, playing pieces, dice, game board (if it fits) so they can bring this home and work on this over the weekend. They need to color their game board and pictures of their life cycle. For the puzzle, we are putting the questions and answers on one side and a picture of their life cycles on the other side. I will laminate these for the students next week and they can cut them out. Also, we are going to be doing some fun themed culminating activities. I will need supplies to pull this off, so be looking for a supply list from Signup Genius to volunteer to bring in supplies for these days. Don't forget to come to Spring Showcase on Thursday. They are getting all excited about this. Curriculum: Science: Projects are due Wednesday, I hope to wrap these projects up on Monday so students can put their finishing touches on them this week. English: We are working on reviewing everything we have learned and editing writing. They will write their last opinion writing about a book they are or have read and turn this in for a writing grade. Reading: The students are loving reading in their Reading Book Clubs. They have so much to share with each other about how much they are enjoying their book. They have been video taping themselves and uploading these into SeeSaw so I can read and hear what they have written about their book. These videos are great! Math: Both 2.2 & 3.2: We took our last Unit assessment. The students did a fantastic job. Our class average was 97% (with one student that still needs to finish). I introduced them to . a new math game that teaches fact fluency and math concepts. It is called Prodigy. I set it to their level (so 3.2 will be on 3rd grade) The students love it because they play with other students. It is very interactive and the students don't feel like they are learning...but they are :) I will give them their password and they can play this over the summer to help review what they have learned this year. Enjoy your weekend, Laura |
