Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for all the sweet cards, kind words, and precious gifts. They mean so much and it means so much to me because the students love giving them. I love their generous spirit. I tried to get thank you cards to everyone today before they left, but I have a few on my desk that I wasn't able to deliver to students before they left. So...thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything.

There is a parent meeting, Wednesday January 31st from 7:15-8:15 a.m. in the Design Lab. Ms. Zarzour and Ms. Pitman will take you through "A Day in the Life of your child in Math Workshop". The session will be interactive where parents will actually rotate through 4 stations like your children do. You will practice games, come to teacher table to see how a small group lesson is taught, work with manipulatives, Chromebooks & iPads and more! Please RSVP to come to this fantastic event!
Curriculum:
Social Studies: We will be studying famous people from Georgia: Jackie Robinson & Martin Luther King in our next unit.
Grammar & Writing: We will be learning about and writing poetry. In grammar we will be studying contractions and apostrophes. In phonics we will be learning about word endings: /le/ & /y/.
Reading: In reading we will be working on bigger books, specifically working on fluency, prosody, and phrasing. Students took a reading assessment on Monday. I have the grades posted on Home Access. I will send these home after the holidays, I just didn't want the folders to get lost over the holidays. Please remember to read each night with your child and to have your child get on iReady (reading), iRead, and RAZ kids over the break.
Math:
2.1-We took our test over measurement. I posted the results on Home Access. If you want to review these tests at any time, please email me and I will send home the student data binders with their tests. We will begin a new unit over applying the base ten concepts. This is a lot of word problems and taking the time to understand how to solve using the concepts they have learned. Please utilize my website to keep reviewing the math skills so they don't forget what we have learned. Also, it is a good idea to keep up on their math fact fluency (addition & subtraction) to help them with this unit.
3.1-We took their unit 3 assessment over operations and algebraic thinking. I haven't posted the grades yet because not everyone completed the test yet. We will begin a measurement unit next. Please keep up with the multiplication and division fact fluency because they will need it in the upcoming unit and they will be lost with fractions if they don't know their facts.
Please keep up with iReady (math) and RedBird over the winter break.
Enjoy the break with your family and friends,
Laura
