Hello Wonderful Parents,
It was great to see everyone at curriculum night! I sent the presentation in a separate email, so if you didn't receive this, please email me separately and I will email it to you directly.
We had a busy week students continuing to present their "All About Me"--which we all love, and the students are continuing to enjoy our shared reading book, Mercy Watson to the Rescue. This is a hilarious story about a pig that lives in a house. We read this together as we talk about good reading, how to read with expression, "scooping up words", and stopping to think about what you just read. We use this and other good literature to teach character, plot, story elements and dialogue as they are learning about these in reading and their personal narratives in writing.
Please make sure your child is reading every night. This should be at least 15-20 minutes They need to keep track of their minutes in their agenda. They need to write down what book they are reading and a parent needs to initial this. As I have reading conferences with your child we will be discussing the books they are reading at home.
The students have been learning about capitalizing words, punctuation, subjects and predicates.
In science the students had their first practice quiz over the Georgia regions. Results are on Aome Access and I will send the practice quiz home with Thursday papers. We will have another quiz this week. The students are going to play a game where they will share 3 truths and a lie about what they read and learned about the Georgia regions and landforms this week.
If your child has Ms. Lamaster for math:
All the students have their IXL username and password. If your child is still struggling with this please let me know. Many of the assignments are done online and I check to see how they are doing. Sometimes I take homework grades on a few of these. I always have IXL assignments on Tuesday and Thursday. They have 2 days to complete their IXL assignments, for example Tuesday's IXL is due Thursday, Thursday's IXL is not due until Monday. It is always good to check and make sure your child is keeping up with these assignments. Log onto IXL and make sure you are adding your email address to the settings so you get updates on your child's progress.
We will also be starting our math stations this week. They will be in groups and one of the math stations is the computer. When they are on the computer they will go to my website: mslamaster.weebly.com and go to my math lessons. Then they can go to our weekly math station assignment. Some of these they needed to sign up for BrainPop (which we did this week) and after watching the video, they submit a quiz to me for a grade. They enjoy this and the visuals are great to reinforce math concepts. I always have an online activity for them to do as well.
Weekly Homework:
2.1-Tuesday-IXL 2nd grade A.3; Thursday-IXL 2nd grade A.4
3.1-Tuesday-IXL 3rd grade P.1; Thursday-IXL 3rd grade P.3
Have a great weekend,
Laura
