Dear Amazing Parents,
Our school fundraiser has been extended! I bought one of these and have been using it every time I buy Christmas presents. It's a total win-win situation for everyone!.
Our goal is raise enough money to purchase items such as books for our classroom, technology, and much more! Please help us reach our goals by asking people to support New Prospect with a minimum donation of $20.00. This donation, gives you cash back at over 250 stores, restaurants, and airlines through the Shopping Boss app. Please watch the videos to find out more.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing this for our kiddos Yellow papers were sent home with information about our fundraiser before Thanksgiving.
Science-Forces in Motion: We have been having a great time learning about push, pull, gravity, centrifugal force, speed, direction, position, & distance. We dropped objects and had scientists study them to see if they both landed at the same time. We also studied gravity, force, and speed as we talked about centrifugal e force. I took a slow motion video of our helpers, Tarikah and LeeAnn as they made popcorn go upside down in a bucket and not fall down--pretty amazing! I will tried to send this through remind, but I can only send pictures so I posted them on a private YouTube video which I will share as soon as I leave today since I can't do this at school.
Writing/Grammar: The phonics sound for this week if /ou/. Here are the vocabulary words and red words for this week: out, couch, loud, mouth, proud. Red Words- Away, them, came, Review: when, because, very.
I am so proud of how far the students have come in writing. We are writing fiction narratives and the students are loving this so much they beg me to extend the time so they can write more. As I am conferencing individually with the students I am amazed at the creativity, not to mention applying the things they have been learning: introduction, transition words, organization, proper grammar, conclusion, etc.
I sent home a rubric of the nonfiction "books" the students created. I have these amazing "books" on our bulletin board outside our classroom if you would like to check these out.
Reading-Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night. The students bought so many good books during the book fair and I know they are excited to read them. I noticed when I signed agendas that some students hadn't read in awhile :( . They are reading fiction, which is always so much fun! You can also have your child read on iReady or RAZ kids. You can access iReady through the Fulton County Launchpad: https://launchpad.classlink.com and RAZ kids works better through an app, but this also depends on your technology device.
Math-Please make sure your child is getting on iReady, Math, and RedBird on the days they don't have math homework (M,W,F & Weekends). The students have made big improvements on their fact fluency. We are now at 84% accuracy for the entire class. We started the year at 42%! We continue to study measurement. This includes reading a clock (digital & analog), inches, feet, yards, we will have been talking about centimeters and meters, but the students won't be independently working on this until next week.
We will have a math quiz on Tuesday over what we have learned so far in measurement. This will cover measuring with a ruler to the nearest inch and centimeter. Determining which unit of measure is best to measure an object, i.e.: gluestick-8 centimeters or 80 centimeters? If you need to borrow a ruler to study, please let me know.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura Lamaster
