Dear Parents,
I am going to be using the Remind App to be sending homework assignments to the students. I sent a math assignment last week and will send an English assignment. Please let me know if you don't have the Remind app and I will send you a link. Also, please let me know if you like the lessons. I always appreciate the honest feedback.
Science: We finished up studying about the sun, earth, moon, and stars. The students had fun making moon patterns with Oreos. This was messy and challenging, but they enjoyed it. We had enough Oreos to have a snack. Thanks to everyone that contributed. The students really appreciated it! We will be finishing our gnome sundials. We didn't have enough sun in the morning this week, so hopefully we can finish these before spring break. We will be learning about nutrition in health.
English/Writing: The students launched their catapults and measured how far they went. They had 3 attempts they had to record. Then they wrote about if their hypothesis was correct. This week they will be writing a nonfiction how to. The students should have an idea of what they want to write about. They started their table of contents and will be working on specific vocabulary they need for their writing. They will finish this by Friday for a grade. I will be conferencing with each of the students to make sure they are on track.
We will be learning about commas in a series.
In Word Work we will be learning about the hard /c/ sound. Skill words: can, cap, cup, class, cliff, crib, crash, came cave, cup, clap, camp, card. Red Words: Excellent, Friday, any, home, when, there
Reading: We will have a reading assessment on Thursday. This will be a nonfiction story. They will need to determine the main idea and use supporting details to support this. They will also need to pull out the most important detail and tell why it is so important. We will have nonfiction reading clubs this week.
Math: We will start out math assessment on Wednesday (no TAG) and leave Thursday for anyone that doesn't finish or was absent. On Friday we will have a review and catch-up day and pre assessment for the next math unit.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura
