Hello Amazing Parents!
Great job Bailey, Miles, Michael, and Sachi in their Children's Program today. They all did an exceptional job!!
Curriculum this week:
Writing: We finished our science notebook writing with our popcorn and salt experiment and started a car and ramp experiment. Students are testing their question and hypethesis by measuring the distance their car travels on carpet. Then they are comparing this to the distance the car travels on tile. They are doing a great job with this!! This is a fun writing unit because it is writing with a definite purpose that the students can relate to.
Reading: We are reading nonfiction, reviewing nonfiction text features, looking at the structure of nonfiction writing (sequential, cause and effect, compare and contrast, and problem and solution). They have also been working in Reading Book Clubs to read and gain information. We discussed how to be a good Book Club reader. We are striving to be Legendary Raichu:
1. We talk about our books
2. We add on and ask questions to talk more
3. We give examples from the book
4. We plan for book talk so we can talk long about our best ideas
Grammar and Word Work:
We will be learning multiple meaning words this week and continue to work on similes and metaphors in mentor text.
We learned the y sound this week. They learned y with an i sound (cry). and y like an e sound (happy). Their word wall (red wall words) were: need, wouldn't, and everything.
Math:
We continued to learn about geometry this week. We played a riddle game during math stations where students had to give clues to the student in the "hot seat" with their back turned
